Lady of Devices by Shelley Adina
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I thoroughly enjoyed this engaging romp through a steampunk London. It started out a little slowly, what with the hints at romance, but quickly turned into a rip-roaring adventure tale that had me on the edge of my seat.
Claire was a bit of a wimp in the beginning - certainly whenever she dealt with her mother - but I appreciated her annoyance at the way the world perceives females in general and young ladies in particular - not to mention the way she sought to undermine those perceptions.
My favourite part of this book? The writing. Someone who understands the difference between "rein" and "reign"! It might seem small, but the excellence of the writing throughout showed that an editor has been at work, and doubled my enjoyment.
